On 21st July 2022, the University Senate of the UBB approved the application of János Vik, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Roman Catholic Theology at the UBB, to become a doctoral supervisor. We are happy to welcome him as “founding father” of our doctoral school and as an outstanding expert in fundamental theology, spirituality, logotherapy and existential analysis.

János Vik was born on 4th April 1971 in Craidorolț. He finished his secondary school at the Industrial High School No. VI in Satu Mare. In 1990, he began his theological studies in Alba Iulia, followed by studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the Ludwig-Maximilian’s-University in Munich, from 1993 to 1997. In December 1997 he was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of Satu Mare. Between 1998 and 2000 he was chaplain at the Cathedral parish in Satu Mare, and between 2000 and 2001 in Sighetu Marmatiei. Between 2001 and 2004 he studied for his doctorate in Munich, during which time he also studied logotherapy of Viktor E. Frankl. In 2004 he obtained a diploma at the South German Institute of Logotherapy (DGLE) in Fürstenfeldbruck. Also during these years, he was a permanent assistant parish priest in the parishes of St. Clemens and St. Vinzenz in Munich-Neuhausen. Between 2004 and 2008 he was parish priest in Căpleni, and, between 2004 and 2006, he was spiritual director at the Josephus Calasantius Roman Catholic High School in Carei. In December 2006 he received his doctorate in theology from the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the Ludwig-Maximilian’s-University of Munich. In July 2008 he was honoured with the “Johann-Michael Sailer Preis” by the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the Ludwig-Maximilian’s-University of Munich for his academic work. Since March 2008, János Vik has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Roman Catholic Theology of the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. In 2016 he was elected dean of the Faculty, a post he is still holding, and since 2017 he is an associate professor. János Vik defended his Habilitation in 2022, also in the field of fundamental theology. He is the author of numerous studies and scientific papers, an excellent speaker, and an internationally recognized expert in logotherapy.
